SFI dips its banner in honour of Comrade Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, former leader of SFI and a courageous communist fighter in the country who breathed his last, a few hours ago. Comrade Kodiyeri led the student movement as the secretary of the SFI Kerala State committee and all India joint secretary throughout the 1970s. He played an important role in building SFI as a strong mass organization in Kerala in its initial years.
He was among the first student activists arrested after the emergency was declared under the draconian MISA act and subjected to brutal police torture. Kodiyeri always stood with firm support to the student movement where he grew up as an active political being. Kodiyeri was a stringent fighter for secular and democratic values. The contributions of Comrade Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, to the student movement and also to the larger democratic movement will always be honoured. SFI pays homage to one of the tallest leaders it ever produced. Adieu, Comrade.!
