‘The Modi Question’: SFI Demands Revoking of Suspension of Students by Rajasthan Central University
Student Struggle Editorial Team
The Central Executive Committee of the Students’ Federation of India has released a press statement condemning the high handed action of the Rajasthan Central University administration which has suspended 11 students over the screening of the BBC documentary, ‘India: The Modi Question’.
It should be noted that the latest action of the university administration comes in continuation of a spate of attacks on students across the country for screening the 2-part BBC documentary series. While the university administration had not granted permission for the screening on January 26, the students went ahead with the screening through laptops and mobile phones.
Stating that such ‘censorship’ will not be accepted in the world’s largest democracy, the SFI has demanded that the suspension of the students be withdrawn with immediate effect. The full press statement is given below.
Full text of the statement:
SFI expresses all our solidarity with the suspended students in Rajasthan Central University
In a shameful act by the Rajasthan Central University administration, 11 students have been suspended for screening the documentary, ‘India: The Modi Question‘. The Central Executive Committee of the Students’ Federation of India condemns such an action and demands the administration to immediately withdraw the suspension of the students.
The new two-part documentary series of the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) ‘India: The Modi Question‘ focuses on the 2002 Gujarat pogrom that killed thousands and left millions homeless, especially in the Muslim community, and the role played by the then chief minister Narendra Modi’s government. Now the intolerant Modi government is trying to ban this documentary. Students’ Federation of India will not accept the “censorship” in the world’s largest democracy.
The suspension of students in Rajasthan Central University is the continuation of the attacks on students that happened just before in Jamia Millia Islamia, JNU for the same reason. The Sangh Parivar using the state power and the ABVP, is unleashing attacks on students and the other dissenting voices. They should step back from this.
